About the District Court
District Judges in Cullman County generally hear juvenile dependancy matters (cases where it is alleged a child is being abused or neglected), juvenile delinquency cases (relatively minor criminal offenses where the alleged perpetrator is less than 18 years of age), traffic violations, paternity cases, and misdemeanor criminal offenses.
District Judges can accept guilty pleas in all felony cases not punishable by death, conduct pretrial and preliminary hearings in felony cases, and hear civil law suits in which the amount being sued for is less than ten thousand dollars. In addition, the District Judges preside over Small Claims Court cases in which the amount being sued for is less than three thousand dollars.
